If you now have an amateur radio license, and you were also licensed as a ham 25 years or more ago you are eligible to join QCWA and our local chapter, Sunflower Chapter 79. It is not necessary that you have been continuously licensed during the twenty-five year period. So.. if you qualify or even if you are close.. come and join us at our next meeting.

Kids' Day on the Air
This will be held at
Exploration Place
300 N Mclean Blvd
Wichita, KS

Kids Day is an on-air event to encourage young people (licensed or not) to have fun with Amateur Radio. It is designed to give on-the-air experience to youngsters and hopefully foster interest in getting a license of their own. It is also intended to give older hams a chance to share their station and love for Amateur Radio with their children.

We will set up an H.F. antenna and coax on Friday and will bring the H.F. Transceiver and other VHF-UHF radios on Saturday morning and be operating from 10AM to 5PM in their auditorium. Exploration Place has a large screen that will allow us to project maps and other computerized pictures as visual aids.

Please e-mail any pictures of your shack that we can share with visitors to David Stanislaw.
We will need operators for the station throughout the day; if you are interested contact David Stanislaw or call (316)-722-4552 for more information.

June 28-29, 2008

This year, WARC will not itself be hosting a Field day station - rather we will be accepting the gracious offer of the BEARS to join them at their event.

Here's their information on the event, from the BEARS Field day co-ordinator Randy Wing, NØLD:

The event will be held at the Spirit-Boeing Employees Association (SBEA) lake. The address for the event is:
4226 S. Gold
Wichita, KS 67217

The best way to get there is to take 235 to the MacArthur exit — go west until you get to the light at "Gold" Street and go south until you get to the SBEA Lake. We have arranged to have the air conditioned pavilion from Friday, 27th June at noon until Sunday, 29th June at 3 PM. Most of our stations will be located outside under tents — anyone who is interested in setting up a tent/station, please contact Randy Wing, NØLD

We would like to have the names of attendees one week before field day. You are still welcome to drop in — you just might be charged for attendance by the SBEA if you do. Each of our SBEA lake members can have up to 10 guests a year — so we will be taking advantage of that by listing our guests at the front gate. Send your attendees to Randy Wing, NØLD.

We will be operating at least 7A — and it would be nice to even go higher. We are looking for someone with experience with 160m — although these contacts are not high in number — we feel that many local amateurs would like the opportunity to get on this band. It would be wonderful if you would like to operate morse code - please let me know — morse code has priority for operation on any station. Typically, we haven't had many CW operators — and we want to see this grow.

If you have a band-preference or want to captain a station, please contact Randy as well. I'd like to distribute attendees to the different stations — My hope is that we can run an hour or two shift at a time per person — with every person being able to work on any station they truly want to.

We will begin antenna and station setup ANYTIME after noon on Friday, June 27th. We will have a supper on Friday evening (bring your own food — or come early (by 5) and order pizza with us). Field Day morning (Saturday) will be the opportunity for everyone to get a shot at radio/station familiarization.

The BEARS will be providing a Field Day supper on Saturday — we would really like volunteers or organizations that are participating to sponsor other meals — you don't need to pay for the entire meal — we can take collections to help — but we definitely need help organizing. Again, contact Randy Wing, NØLD.

We ask that everyone present on Sunday please help with take down — it goes really fast with many hands!

I will be sending out a complete agenda of activities and more information within the next couple of weeks.

We look forward to seeing many people at Field day — and we really look forward to meeting new friends — thanks for joining with us for Field Day!
