  • The recognition and enhancement of the value of amateur radio service to the public as a voluntary, noncommercial communication service, particularly with respect to providing emergency communication
  • The continuation and extension of the amateur’s proven ability to contribute to the advancement of the radio art;
  • The encouragement and improvement of the amateur radio service through rules which provide for advancing skills in both the communication and technical phases of the art;
  • The expansion of the existing reservoir within the amateur radio service of trained operators, technicians and electronics experts;
  • The amateur’s unique ability to enhance international good will.

Club Activities

The club owns and operates three repeaters:

The Wichita Amateur Radio Club meets at 7:30 PM on the first Wednesday of each month. Meetings are held at the Salvation Army Building located at 350 N. Market, Wichita, Kansas. A social gathering starts at 7:00 pm and followed promptly at 7:30 pm with the business meeting. Usually an interesting program begins after the meeting about 8:00 PM.

The Club publishes a newsletter (the Grounded Grid) and a web site to keep the membership informed. The club also provides the area with an on the air net every Sunday evening at 8:00 pm on the 146.79 repeater.

In June every year, the Club participates in the ARRL Field Day. This is a good opportunity to have a chance to operate on the HF bands even though you might not have those specific operating privileges. This is a family outing for our club, with games, overnight camping, and a picnic as well as the radio operations.

The Club promotes a hamfest or tailgate party each year for the Wichita and South Central Kansas area. Other ham related activities include family picnics, and the installation of officer’s banquet in January. WARC is one of the state’s largest and most active clubs.

WARC has a dedicated group of Officers and Board Members that are willing to listen to your requests for different types of activities and programs. Make your requests known to the Board. Consideration and decisions will be made concerning any new ideas to extend the services of the Club. E-mail addresses for Board Members are listed in the Grounded Grid and are also on the WARC web site. (www.warc1.org)
